WM#231 - inspired by flamingos

It may seem a little random but there are a lot of flamingos out there if you haven't already noticed. Scrapbooking products and for around the home - flamingos are on trend!

So when I challenged you to use flamingos on your layout, I was also challenging myself.

And I did it.

The layout isn't a serious one - really just for fun - but I used several flamingo items on the page and recorded a little story about my love for flamingos and the fact that I have lots more product so I'm going to need to find more reasons to use it up!

Sorry the photos aren't stellar - just wanted to get a shot and upload it as soon as I got home!

I added my journalling to the back of this little journaling card.
It's not private but I liked the card and thought it was an ideal place to write a few words

Just a light-hearted page to show you that your page doesn't really need to be fixated on the flamingos themselves - just incorporate a few items, use flamingo pink or even just use a single element (such as the cute paperclip) I used all three of these ideas on one page and it was fun to just cut into those papers and get them onto a page.

Again, that's what it's all about, right?

I've got a photo and an idea for last week's prompt that I haven't yet managed to pull together. Hopefully in the next few days...

When's the last time you made a page - just because???

We love it when you share too and you can do that at either of our Whimsical Musings groups which can be found at Flickr (here) or over at Facebook (here). Whichever is better for you is great for us. We will find you! Tag your layouts with WM#XXX so that we know which prompt you followed.

#226 - be inspired by where you come from & #227 - be inspired by a pinned colour scheme

What?!? Two posts in one day. Could this be the start of something new? Lisa managing her own prompts within the week? Maybe. Let's take it one prompt at a time :-)

But as soon as my August Counterfeit Kit Challenge kit, Sundance had been made up - late as always - I could see that several of the colours from WM#227's colour scheme were included. So I used the Adobe Capture app to create this palette.

The orange and pink tone came out a little darker than I had planned but when I looked at my kit, I had almost everything I needed to match. I tracked down some deeper aqua alphas and made up this mini page kit to inspire me.

The top design is the b-side of the teal balloon paper from my kit and in the end, I used both sides. I also changed out the pocket page card and the doily while I was making the page but all in all, the kit seemed to give me everything I wanted.

So then I decided to tie up the colour scheme with WM#226 from the week before which was to be inspired by where you come from. I've made several pages about being British, or my home town, or my adopted home country and town so I decided to go for a different interpretation. About me.

Following on from my Forgeries on the Fourth post over on my blog (here) I decided to dip the main word of my title to soften the colour of the woodgrain letters. I like how they came out even if the paint dried a little textured.

A little gold and aqua ink tied in with the other colours on the page.

I also added in a small amount of twine at the last minute to add a little more texture and detail.

The journalling is personal and therefore hidden. I don't normally journal in blue but I forgot and just used the pen in my hand. And I really messed up some of the writing itself so I may change out that card for another attempt at better journalling! The photo is one of the selfies I took in my 30 Days of Selfies challenge back in April. It was good to get another one used up.

So there you have it: two prompts on one page and right up to date. I am in love with this page and am so happy that I pushed myself to get it done while I had a quiet afternoon.

We love it when you share too and you can do that at either of our Whimsical Musings groups which can be found at Flickr (here) or over at Facebook (here). Whichever is better for you is great for us. We will find you! Tag your layouts with WM#XXX so that we know which prompt you followed.

Challenge #213 - inspired by the selfie

Happy 1st June. I have scrappy plans this month due to the increased mojo I have after a month of LOAD! What about you?

Now back to the prompt: to be honest, I use a lot of selfies in my scrapping about myself - I'm usually the only one taking any photos of me - so this challenge wasn't so difficult for me.

And during LOAD516, I usually have the chance to make a few layouts that covered more than one prompt, challenge or commitment all at the same time and I'm pleased that I can share one or two of those here on the Whimsical Musings blog over the next few days.

First up is WM#213 - be inspired by the selfie.

At the beginning of April, I realised that I hadn't been taking and sharing many photos and that I was a little short of photos to use on my pages. I then decided that I would try to challenge myself to 30 days of selfies. I managed 25 out of 30 days and got very creative in interpreting the selfie on bad hair/face days!

This layout uses the Scrapabilly June kit which features Pink Paislee/Paige Evans Fancy Free collection. I knew that I wanted a whole spread of all the photos I'd taken for this self-imposed challenge but fitting 25 photos onto one layout meant that either the page would be completely filled up or I'd need to extend.

I decided to go for the 12x18 which I love so much which gave me space for some minimal embellishing and my Cameo cut title which seemed perfect.

There were several other pages featuring selfies during my LOAD516 month but let me just share these last two with you which both use my Counterfeit Kit Challenge kits.

Counterfeit Kit Challenge April 2016 kit, Bisou #2

Counterfeit Kit Challenge May 2016 kit, Sprinkle #7

I'll sort out some more pages to share soon. But I just wanted to prove that I really do make pages for my own challenges sometimes!

Don't forget that we love it when you share your own pages that have been inspired by a Whimsical Musings prompt. There's the Whimsical Musings Flickr group here or our own Whimsical Musings Facebook group here. Use the tag WM#XX so that we know which prompt inspired you!

Challenge #213 - week of 16th May 2016

During April, I challenged myself to take a selfie every day. I've found myself out of the daily photograph habit and noticed that I was turning to the same photos of me when I come to scrapping so I pulled those two ideas together and went with it. Yes, a little self-indulgent. But I mostly scrapbook about myself and have no problem featuring myself on a page (although I'm terribly vain!) so it seemed a good thing to do. I learnt a lot. It's not easy to find new ways to take those photos so that they look different every day. Bad face days and bad hair days call for drastic action. Relish the days when you look in the mirror and like what you see. To name but three.

I intend to put them all onto one page at some point.

Anyway, this week I'd like you to be inspired by the selfie.

Include a selfie, make a page just about you, comment on how much you hate the selfie craze, make a page about a silly selfie or a silly situation where you were taking one. What about a page about someone else's selfie that you find on your phone or camera?

To be honest, I've been taking selfies forever. I was very often holding my camera out to take a shot or setting up the self-timer.

One of my favourites is this page about the moment I became someone else. The self-timer proved very useful those few weeks in Singapore, alone. Of course, we didn't call it a selfie back then :-)

I have so many selfie based layouts it's difficult to know which ones to share but you can go dark and introspective or bright and happy.

Alone or with others.

There's so much space for your own interpretation here!

We'd love you to be inspired by this prompt and hope you will share your creations - there are now two ways to do this!

You can either upload your layout into the Whimsical Musings Flickr gallery with the tag WM#213 or you can post it in our Whimsical Musings Facebook group. We've decided that we'll save albums for special occasions so just load up your photo to the group with the tag WM#213 in the write up text so that we can find it.

#15 Inspired by being grateful {for us}

I really wanted to take this opportunity to take my own challenge to heart and create a meaningful layout. Last week I challenged us all to create about one thing you are grateful about yourself. I took my time all week really examining my life.

Then on Wednesday I started noticing a theme - I am a positive person. I find the silver lining in almost every situation. It all began with 2 birthday cards I got from co-workers. They each mentioned how I bring sunshine/happiness to those around me. I thought it was funny that they decided to highlight this and it left me thinking. Then as the pressures of the busy Holiday weekend built up and tempers flared and traffic kept me from getting to places on time... I noticed that I was able to maintain my general cheeriness and find a positive spin to place on everything.

But enough about me! Here is my creation based on my introspection -

I really do hope this week gave you the opportunity to reflect a little about those things that make you YOU-nique. Even if you were too busy to create, I hope you keep this prompt with you and re-visit it at a later time. It is important to document our gratitude and it is also important to realize what makes us great. And trust me, we are great. Whenever you do create, remember to add it to our flick'r gallery with the tag WM#15

And I guess I'll close with another statement of gratitude - So very grateful for this little community of online friends that encourage and inspire me to create. Thank you sincerely.

Challenge #15 Week of 21st November 2011

This week we are celebrating Thanksgiving here in the states which is the perfect excuse to scrap about the things we are grateful for.

There have been some gorgeous layouts popping up all over Pinterest {for example here and here} with people listing what they are grateful for and even why.

But consider this:
We really are blessed. This week I want us to take the time to acknowledge it. But there is a twist... I want you to be grateful for you.

I challenge you to create a layout featuring one thing about yourself you are grateful for.

This can be something physical, such as your eyes, legs, hair, etc. Or it can be more abstract, such as your health or your education. It can be a personality trait, such as your cheeriness. It can be sincere, romantic, sarcastic or even ironic. Stretch your mind and find that thing about yourself you are grateful for and make a layout about it. And remember to have fun doing it!

Lisa and I will be posting our take on this challenge by next Sunday. I challenge you to do the same... and in case you are not the type to follow through with deadlines, I guess you can make a layout about your gratitude for your ability to procrastinate. *wink*

xo,
Pamage
