Challenge #215 week of 30th May 2016

I'm always on the lookout for a "new" product to use on my pages. The scrapbook industry is good at encouraging us to buy the next latest and greatest but sometimes there are items just hanging around that are perfect to use on our pages but maybe you just don't notice them. Tissue paper is one those items.

Therefore, this week I'd like you to be inspired by tissue paper

I added some to a kit I made last year and then even managed to use it on a page or two after noticing that Rahel Menig often added a roughly torn layout underneath her many layers. This is the layout I made inspired by her style

Then I counterfeited some tissue paper flowers for a Counterfeit Kit Challenge kit last year. They never made it onto layouts to be honest but they were super quick and easy to make so maybe this is some inspiration for you and you never know, I might give them another go.

And just this last month, I used the tissue paper that my Scrapabilly kit came wrapped in to add a confetti border as well as a multi-layered photo mat. I love the textural detail it gives without the bulk.

And to give credit where credit is due, I got the idea of tissue confetti from Susan who sent me a wonderful selection of large and smaller multi-coloured tissue paper confetti after I oo'ed and ah'ed about some of her sprinkled pages! I've made other confetti myself before but just from paper.

So, get that tissue paper out of your wrapping paper box and get creative with it. I know that I'm really going to try to get this prompt done sooner rather than later!

We'd love you to be inspired by this prompt and hope you will share your creations - there are now two ways to do this!

You can either upload your layout into the Whimsical Musings Flickr gallery with the tag WM#215 or you can post it in our Whimsical Musings Facebook group. We've decided that we'll save albums for special occasions so just load up your photo to the group with the tag WM#215 in the write up text so that we can find it.

#75 inspired by the use of envelopes

I use envelopes from time to time on pages, but usually I use them to hide my journaling. I have never made them the focal point of my page, so this challenge had my wheels turning. I also wanted to do the layering on the samples some justice so I knew I had my work cut out for me.

I knew just the envelope for this. My December Daily kit from Kelly Purkey came with a large (6.5x6.5 I think) vellum with glitter envelope.

For my design I went with funky triangles which is a trend I have been spotting. I used a bunch of bright scraps with a few added craft papers. I stuffed my envelope to overflowing with memorabilia and threw in a bunch of confetti for good measure.

Then, of course, came the layering of the front of the envelope. I wanted to do something dimensional and full of textures but in the end I just used a few die cuts in the right colors and scattered a few buttons and called it good. Overall I like how it turned out.

there wasn't enough room for a title or more photos so I made it a double spread. You can see additional images of the two pages together by visiting the gallery. Really curious to see how you used envelopes this week. Please remember to link us up in the gallery.

#72 inspired by bling, confetti and glitter

Well, I'm determined to catch up with everything as soon as I can on the prompts I've missed recently and there is a long list to be honest. Thank you to everyone for being so patient with me. I appreciate each and every one of you and even when I haven't been around, I've been thinking of you and try to get to our Flickr group as often as I can even if I don't manage to comment.

Life has not exactly calmed down round here but I am trying to just keep my head above water and make time for the things that make me happy and that most certainly includes Whimsical Musings and playing with paper.

I made a decision to leave the TV off yesterday evening and sat here looking for inspiration. It came to me from my Counterfeit Kit Challenge December page kit, Anticipate. I had posted about it on my blog and had intended to make a page about our Advent wreath tradition to include. I even had a note in my post to remind where to post the photo. Of course, I totally forgot and didn't manage to get my hands on any of my scrap supplies after I came back from our trip in December. So that was the first thing that needed to be checked off. I had the photos selected and printed so it was just a matter of picking up my kit and making it work for the prompt (immediately forgetting the original blog post also had a sketch to use!). And as the WM prompt was all about sparkle, it was perfect for this Christmas layout. I am a firm believer that everyone needs a whole lot of sparkle at that time of year.

I added in a sheet of white cardstock, glitter and sequins to match the photos and the prompt. I think this matches the prompt enough ;-) I included glitter slodges, glimmer mist, sequins, silver ink and some shimmery fabric. Ha ha, talk about overload!

So, being on a roll and thinking about how I had commented on the Flickr board that I had a sequin story to tell from my dressmaking days, I decided to carry on and finish a second page for this story. I love the way that our prompts or other inspiration pushes me into telling my story in small manageable chunks. If I ever get to put my layouts into albums, it will be interesting to see how that adds up and what bits are missing.

CKC January kit, Renew, #2

What a perfect prompt for this dull time of year. I was smiling all the time I made these two layouts.

Thanks Pam for making this week so easy for me :-)

#72 inspired by bling, confetti & glitter

Bling? Check. Confetti? Check. Glitter? Check.

Although the layout is not all jazzed out, it is pretty sparkly right down to the subject.

I chose really bold colors to help the black and white photos shine. I didn't have to worry about matching the silver since it is a neutral and goes with everything.

I hand-drew the main part of my title and added some stickles to it for a little extra shine.

I also found those square beads in my stash. I didn't even know I had those but this was the perfect opportunity to use them to embellish this page. I love non-traditional embellishments.

The reference to "29/30" is to reference my list of "29 things to do before 30".

Did you jazz up your pages this week? A little? A lot?

I can't wait to see.

Challenge # 72 - Week of January 7th, 2013

The new year may be here (happy 2013 by the way) and all the parties may be over for a while, but we still have plenty of reasons to celebrate.

After spending the past week walking about the streets of New York City and noticing all the confetti left behind in Times Square from the celebration, I knew exactly what I wanted our challenge to be.

Glitter, confetti and bling.

So that is your challenge. Find ways to incorporate some shine and glam to your pages this week. And as can be seen in the examples below from Lisa and I, you can add these details in many ways and to many subjects.
