Challenge #335 - week of 21st October 2019

Trying to mix things up and keeping it short and sweet today seeing as though this is a day late (need to get back to the prescheduling!), I'm taking my inspiration from something I posted over at the Counterfeit Kit Challenge FB community last week. I asked everyone how much paper they had in their stash collection.

It would appear that we all have "more than enough" - whatever that means!

Therefore, this week I'd like you to be inspired by paper.

By this I'm thinking more along the lines of just paper in general. In the past we've had other paper based prompts - WM#74 - bold paper; WM#157 - photo realistic papers; WM#215 - tissue paper; WM#283 - oriental paper - but let's just try to pick some paper that we love and use it!
  • layer, distress, sew, weave, die-cut, ink, tear, block, fussy cut,
  • use your favourite and showcase it as much as you can
  • try to find a way to use and love a paper that's not such a favourite
  • use more - or less - than you usually would
  • go to a beloved sheet of hoarded treasured paper that's sitting, collecting dust
  • cut into a sheet that you just bought a short time ago
  • challenge yourself to using more layers than you normally would
  • challenge yourself to using a single sheet with a large design

Layered

Fussy cut

Distressed

Inked and stitched

Cut to form a background

Backed

Punched

I am a paper lover and even though I know that I have more that I need and could really do with more embellishments and alphas, a beautiful sheet of paper can win my heart every time 💗.

But I do use a lot. I like to cut up a whole bunch of pieces and then layer them up to get the full range of texture and pattern. This is good for using up my supplies and makes me happy. So I might need to go a different direction this week - let's see!

Whichever way you decide to go, I really hope you'll share. It would be great to see what you make.  You can connect with us in our Facebook group here. Tag your entry with #WMXX so we know exactly which inspiration you've taken.

Have a great day everyone!

Challenge #283 - week of 9th April 2018

I'm fighting with a lacking mojo at the moment so I'm hoping that keeping up with my posts here at WM each week will kick-start it sooner or later!

Recently, I spied some papers at Scrapabilly by Kaisercraft that I just knew my sister would adore. She stopped scrapping some time ago and I've been trying to lure her back ever since. She loves all things oriental and I thought it might nudge her into cutting some paper. She really did love the products I sent but so far, no layout! Ha ha. But I got myself one or two the items for myself and this week, I'd like to find the inspiration to use it. Hence this week's prompt.

I'd like you to be inspired by these oriental design papers.

I think they are just beautiful and could use them for many different styles and types of pages. You might have some similar designs in your own stash or you might be inspired by the bright colour combinations. Maybe you just take one or two of the elements in the papers here to inspire you - design, colour, words.  The cranes might spark a bird themed story of your own or maybe you've been lucky enough to travel to the orient and want to make a travel-themed page. Origami, cherry blossoms, pagodas or buddhist temples. Maybe you just want to concentrate on your love of yoga, meditation or general worship. There's many directions if you think about it! Which way will you go this week?

Many many years ago, I bought some gorgeous paper for a Singapore themed page but of course I can't find a photo of it right now. If I track it down, I'll post it or maybe I'll just remake it as I think it's one that I earmarked to redo! However, I remember that there was lots of cherry blossom fussy cutting which was really pretty.

If you're inspired to create this week, don't forget that you can add your own creations to our Facebook group here - we love it when you share so please don't be shy! Tag your entry with #WMXX so we know exactly which inspiration you've taken.

Or simply tell us in the comments where to find you... :-)

Challenge 157 week of 2nd February 2015

It's been a growing trend. I think the first time I saw them in their latest style was in the Echo Park Everyday Eclectic collection with the beach/fairground background paper although they might have been around longer. The design was all washed out and different compared to the bright green grass paper I bought back in 2006 when I started (and never used)! I fell in love with them right there.

Echo Park Everyday Eclectic

But since then, they've been growing and growing in numbers and I'm guessing popularity with all sorts of gorgeous bokeh style papers and sheets full of flowers, beaches, clouds, the open road and of course, woodgrain.

Have you got some of these in your stash? I know I can't seem to get enough of them right now...

Webster's Pages Ocean Melody

Crate Paper Open Road

Webster's Pages All That Glitters

Webster's Pages Beautiful Chic
Simple Stories Cosy Christmas

So, this week I'd like you to be inspired by photo realistic papers.

If you don't have any of the new style designs, then maybe you have one or two older sheets hiding in the back of your paper storage?  I've just used a large piece of that blossom paper on a layout that I can't share with you just yet but here's just a peek!

Use it to support the subject of your layout or just because you think it's pretty. Use it whole or just a tiny piece. But let's get these gorgeous patterns out of the stash and into our albums!

As always, we LOVE to see your creations over at the Whimsical Musings Flickr gallery here and don't forget to tag them WM#156!

Challenge # 89 - Week of May 6th 2013

Whoa! Hey there. We are already in May. Crazy how fast this year is flying by... Happy National Scrapbooking day, y'all.

But you didn't come here to hear about my year. We are here for scrapbooking challenges with a whimsical twist. And because I know a lot of you are probably participating in LOAD or NSD challenges around the web I decided to keep the challenge simple so you can incorporate this into other projects you may be working on.

So - your challenge this week is to use tone on tone on your layouts. And I found some examples from my own arsenal to share with you and get you started on some ideas

* use tone-on-tone die cuts over paper strips of the same color family

* use tone-on-tone by stamping designs with same color ink as paper

* use tone-on-tone with lots of buttons over a painted strip on your paper - through in some tone-on-tone brads and embellishments for extra whimsy
*add tone-on-tone strips and scraps of the same cardstock over your background to create interest and texture without compromising white space

I hope this has given you a starting point for your layout. I can't wait to see what you come up with. Remember to add it to our gallery with the tag WM#89.

Challenge # 74 - Week of January 21st, 2012

Another week is upon us.

And I know we have had a slow start to this year, but we are not slowing down on the prompts. So keep checking back and once you are up to it again, jump right back in. We will be waiting for you.

My challenge for this week was inspired by a layout I made (which I still can't share with you) which used the two papers below.

the doodlebug paper can be found {here} and the basic grey paper {here}

I know what you might be thinking - those patterns don't match. And perhaps they don't. They are big and bold , statement patterns with totally different motifs and styles. One from a classic line and the other from a vintage beach line. Maybe mixing them is a faux pas in the world of fashion and design. But that is what is so great about our craft - we can do what we want! I actually love my page( will share next weekend) and it turned out ok.

Your challenge, if you chose to accept it is to mix two or more Big, Bold patterns from two different lines and manufacturers. Be risky and brave. You can do this. Take it up a notch and break other myths, such as don't mix florals or dots with stripes.

A tip when using these papers and not letting your pictures get lost in the mix: add a white or black mat around the photos to frame them and separate them.

I leave you with an example of a well-executed bold pattern mixing.

Pamage
