#288 - be inspired by weddings

Even thought I've been late again this week in putting up my prompt, I did actually create a couple of pages which matched a couple of Whimsical Musings prompts.

This time around, I'd like to share the layout I made using WM#288 - be inspired by weddings.

Of course, I wrote the prompt after the royal wedding and so it seemed only right to actually make my own layout about the wedding in question.

I sat in front of the tv all day soaking up all the details of the event and remembered to snap a few shots of my own decorations and afternoon tea delicacies which accompanied our viewing experience!

I used my Counterfeit Kit Challenge May kit, Funky and just picked out all the bits that made me happy. I added in two part sheets of Simple Stories wedding collection, Always and Forever, for the background as I didn't have anything suitable. I like the contrast of all the pink and aqua and colourful elements on top of the simple background papers.

I just layered up lots of bits and pieces that seemed to say celebration or fun to make this a very lighthearted design.

I couldn't just pick one or two photos so I printed them all out in a small size to fit in as many as I could.

Challenge #288 - week of 21st May 2018

My excuse this week? It was a Bank Holiday yesterday which means I totally lost the fact that it was Monday!

But it was a wonderful weekend in my neck of the woods and this is my inspiration for this week.

I would like you to be inspired by weddings!

Yes, it was the "Royal Wedding of the Year" last Saturday. Now, that might not be such a big deal for you but it was a huge thing for this fan of all things royal and I blocked the whole day in my diary to spend hours in front of the TV with champagne, scones and Coronation Chicken. Loved it!

Of course you can take this prompt in your own wedding direction. That of your children, a vintage layout featuring parents, grandparents or even older ancestors? Maybe you have a wedding themed collection of papers that you would just love to use - a nuptial layout or not. Perhaps comparing your own wedding with the dreams of you childhood self. A wish-filled future wedding maybe? Or just a bringing together of two things that are destined to be. Several directions to go this week.

If you're inspired to create this week, don't forget that you can add your own creations to our Facebook group here - we love it when you share so please don't be shy! Tag your entry with #WMXX so we know exactly which inspiration you've taken.

Challenge #247 - week of 6th February 2017

Today marks the 65th Jubilee for Queen Elizabeth II. Today, I learnt that this is represented by sapphire and a lovely official photograph has been released today of the Queen wearing some rather impressive sapphire jewellery (even if it's totally not my style!).

Now you all know just how much I love my Queen. She makes me very proud to be British and I hope that she is around for many more years on the throne.

So I was trying to find a way of bringing this milestone into the Whimsical Musings prompts for today but we've had quite a few blue themed ones, plus jubilees and even where you come from, so none of these work.

But how about going the completely obvious route? Therefore, this week I'd like you to be inspired by royalty.

As always, I think you could take this in different directions and find a way to make this prompt work for you. There's the direct route of telling a story about the Queen or royalty related to your own country. You could create a project about a royal event - a wedding, a coronation, a special anniversary or even a death. What about royalty in terms of very important people? This takes the challenge into all sorts of different areas such as people in your own family, circle, work environment, celebrities etc.

We'd love you to use this prompt and hope you will share your creations - there are now two ways to do this!

You can either upload your layout into the Whimsical Musings Flickr gallery with the tag WM#247 or you can post it in our Whimsical Musings Facebook group. We've decided that we'll save albums for special occasions so just load up your photo to the group with the tag WM#247 in the write up text so that we can find it.

Challenge #210 - week of 25th April 2015

It was a special few days for me last weekend.

First came a rather special birthday on Thursday 21st - a 90th no less - and then came a celebratory British Tea Party for my family. My mum travelled over especially for the occasion even! I think the German side of the family think I'm ever so slightly crazy but they joined in the fun and came all dressed up in their finest including perfectly British fascinators and bunches of flowers in red, white and blue.

Of course, I was celebrating Queen Elizabeth's 90th birthday - a little bit of Britain in the heart of Germany.

So, in the spirit of patriotism, this week I'd like you to be inspired by red, white and blue.

Of course, when we think of the UK, the Union Jack flag comes to mind with its true red and blue, but the colour range is wider than that as you can see on this beautiful mood board below by Color Me Pretty (sad to see that the blog doesn't exist any more).

I went with a broader range of tones myself in the window decorations I prepared - moving into a more aqua blue and a slightly orange red - much to the gentle irritation of my husband who felt that only the originals were appropriate! We agreed to disagree seeing as though it was "my" party :-)

Of course, these colours are found in many flags so you might want to go in the direction of your own nations colours, or talk about patriotism, or pick up the colours in a whole range of photos (like my London layout below). What about talking about a national holiday in your country, or a trip to the UK you experienced at some time? I've had prompts about the Queen before, but that is another possible way to go - the "real" Queen or your "own", whoever that might be for you.

We'd love you to be inspired by this prompt and hope you will share your creations - there are now two ways to do this!
