Welcome to day 2 of our Whimsical Musings celebration week.
I've asked some of our friends here at WM to contribute this week with layouts using their favourite prompts.
First up, here's Sherrie.
I first "met" Sherrie through LOAD several years back and we became instant friends. She's living my dream, ha ha! She lives in Alberta, Canada and one day I'm going over there to catch up and scrap together - she can be sure of that. I love her zeal for scrapping and her easy way of mixing old and new products together in fun combinations. When she's on a roll, you can hardly believe the productivity this lady can have. She's a follower over at the Counterfeit Kit Challege and has joined in here at Whimsical Musings for a long time.
Let me hand over to Sherrie and she will tell you more about her layout:

Why I love this challenge
I love ombre! Way back in the ‘70’s, when I
was a teen and it was raging cool, we called it variegated.
My fascination with gradually changing
colours, actually goes back to my first decade. On the way home from school there
was this puddle on the side of the road. There
were colours floating on it. Mesmerized by the metallic blues, greens, purple
and pinks, I took a twig and swirled the blobs about, making smaller and
smaller sections of colour. I didn’t know it was motor oil that probably leaked
from a parked vehicle. It was so beautiful, I came to the brilliant conclusion
that only someone young enough to still believe, would. “This,” I declared to
myself, “is where fairies live.”
About my page
One thing I really like about Christmas is
how family members include photos with their cards. I get school photos, visit
with Santa photos, and beautiful professional portraits like the one I chose
for this layout.
Life is Good Today 2015
It began when I pulled out my soft pastels
and thought, geez, I have not used them in awhile. I grabbed a white sheet of
cardstock and drew lines and swaths, then blended them up, and declared it a
failure.
But sometimes you have to mess around a bit before the spark comes. I
wanted to use them on a layout but covering the entire background was not doing it
for me. Hmmmm……how about a ribbon of colour? So I started and moved through the
different blues and accidentally had an ombré element. The rest of the patterned paper and
embellies on the page are from my February 2015 Counterfeit Kit Challenge kit, One Good Turn. The omission
of names and the absence of handwriting
is intentional. As this goes in a family album, the names are on other layouts.
Also, to emphasize the formality of the portrait, I choose to not add my
handwriting.

We now also have a Whimsical Musings FB group (come along here to join in) and I've set up an album there for any layouts that you'd like to share for our 200 celebrations.

You could win this! I have this whole collection and I can only say that it's GORGEOUS. You know that you want to be in with a chance to win these items - the 6x6 pad which includes gold foil sheets, the gold foil sticker sheets, the pack of flair buttons and the sheet of enamel shapes (my fave I think).
Closing date for this giveaway will be 21st February which gives you two weeks for commenting and creating and sharing.
Sherrie, what a gorgeous 'Ombre' effect you created on your LO! I just love it. All the details are so pretty- those flowers especially-- and I adore the way you layered the circular numbers for the date. WTG- this is super. And Lisa- I am so excited to read that we now have a WM FB group. however did I miss THAT? LOL thanks ladies!
ReplyDeleteNo worries, Ali - it's NEW!
DeleteWow what a gorgeous layout love the ombre effect as the border element for the picture to rest on :) The flowers are a perfect touch too :)
ReplyDeleteaaah... my beautiful Northern sista.
ReplyDeleteI just love how you write! And how you think (This is where the fairies live.)
You've put me in mind of a selfie challenge with your 6 word summing up of Sherrie :-)
I especially like the little hits of spring green on your layout. We've got 3-6" of winter falling as we speak... a welcome treat for the eye! xoxoxo
Beautiful page Sherrie. Love the ombre. Very attractive family too.
ReplyDeleteOh Sherrie I definitely agree - sometimes you just have to play and see what happens. Pretty ombre stripe and I like the diagonal line of embellishments too with the pretty bits of yellow.
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful layout with many shades of blue.
ReplyDeleteA lovely page Sherrie - fabulous colouring and living in Canada I am green with envy!
ReplyDeleteThat ombre effect really adds so much to the photo. Beautiful colors and I really like that splash of yellow. This is a great way to dress up some of those stiff formal photos that I have! Now I just have to go in there and play! And beautiful country that you live in...have only been to Banff and Lake Louise..."only" is not the right word as those two places are spectacular!
ReplyDeleteBanff and Lake Louise are a good start, Kathy. Next time, come to Jasper and I will meet you for coffee. It only a five hour drive for me.
DeleteI love that you took a failed attempt and made something so lovely. I might dig out my pastels and give this a go. Did you "fix" them in some way?
ReplyDeleteYes, JimJam. I spray a fixative spray over the chalk, to seal them. Otherwise they would flake away in dust bits and be all over inside the page protector.
DeleteGorgeous ombre effect! This is a stunning page. Thank you for sharing!
