#97 inspired by Sport

In an attempt at catching up on some of my missed prompts....

Now I don't come from the most sporty of backgrounds. I grew up as one of two non-sport-loving girls and my dad was only interested in skiing and Formula 1 - a little. He wasn't a hands on fan, more of a part-time TV watcher. I was not a fan of anything sport related. Well, ok, Torvill and Dean the figure skaters who went on to make ice-skating history in the 1984 Sarajevo Winter Olympics with their perfect score! And once a year, I've been known to zap into Wimbledon.

So, imagine my shock when two young boys were born into the family and brought the world of football into our lives.

After years of fighting against it, I've given into this a little and have since been known to sit through a whole match without asking any (overly) stupid questions and then, back in 2012, I went along to my first ever live match.

LOAD prompted me to make the page of this monumental occasion. I wanted to make the layout all Königsblau and white but peeking into my leftover kits made it clear I was going to have to be a little adaptable on that one.

In the end, my Counterfeit Kit Challenge January kit, Begin, won the day with a selection of blues and soft tones which actually worked better with the stronger blues from the photos.

When I made the layout, I didn't have much to say but since then have thought of more that could describe the events and I might just make up another 6x12 page with a few of the matching colours and type up the fuller story. I don't really feel the need to have more than one football page in my albums ha ha! Well maybe one or two but certainly not more than one just for one event. In fact, I know that I have the ticket for this match somewhere which would be a nice addition. Will need to track that down first.

So yes, I picked out the team colours to a degree but apart from that, I didn't allow the sport theme to influence my own style and I have to say that I rather like this - even with the very strongly coloured photos.

Challenge #97 week of 8th July 2013

What a weekend it's been round here.

We are by no means big sport fans but it's been nothing but since Thursday.

Being British, no summer is complete without Wimbledon and first there was a lovely, young, fresh German girl who had knocked out one of the Williams sisters and then went on to win her semi-final with great pazazz making her the first German in the finals of Wimbledon since the heroine of German tennis and everyone's darling, Steffi Graf.

And then, with the hopes of the nation on his shoulders to make British sporting history, Andy Murray won his semi-final game to get to the final for a second year in a row. So we were all set up for a possible German ladies' tennis win on Saturday and a possible British men's win on Sunday.

And if that wasn't enough, it was the German Formula 1 with Sebastian Vettel (German) in pole position hoping for the first European race win for two years. Phew. It was enough to make you tired just thinking about it.

In the end, young Sabine Lisicki was outplayed by French Marion Bartoli but charmed the crowds all the more with her emotional fight to the end.

And Andy Murray? The boy did good! He won the Wimbledon Men's crown for the first time in 77 years! Not since Fred Perry won in 1936, if you can believe it, has the home crowd had its win. (Just for info, the last ladies' winner for Britain was 1977 which is still an awful long time ago!!)

And Seb Vettel won his race too so there was really something for everyone round here and we all felt very emotional and patriotic.

For a non sporty househouse, that's not all bad.

So, with a nod to this monumental weekend, I'd like to challenge you to be inspired by sport!

Make a sporty page, make a page about your love for a particular team, be inspired by team colours, the layout of the court/pitch/place even.

Take this inspiration to the winning line!

Challenge #50 week of 30th July 2012

Hi again and apologies that this is a tad late up.

I had two possible prompts for this week and then suddenly at lunchtime today, I changed my mind and  just knew what I needed to challenge you...

You *may* have heard on the news (wink!) that the 2012 Olympics started on Friday evening. And what a start it was!

Now, I may be ever so slightly biased but WOW! What a show! And I know that I am beating the whole British thing a bit too much recently but we are having a great year and I think the London Olympics is something that most of the nation are proud of. The opening ceremony was everything that's good about British culture, style and humour, and I was sitting there with a lump in my throat (again!).

But back to the matter in hand. I challenge you this week to be inspired by the Olympics.

Whether you take that literally by creating a layout with a sporting theme, or maybe even about the Olympics itself, or whether you take a more abstract approach to this, maybe picking up the colours, the spirit or even a trip to Greece maybe, have fun with this and go for gold!

No, unfortunately I wasn't there at the ceremony but I managed a few not so perfect shots of the TV coverage!

The Olympic flame just after the 7 young, "next generation", had lit it. I think it's stunning.
