#54 Inspired by sewing

Well, you all should know by now that I LOVE sewing on my layouts. Most times I am too lazy to do it, but whenever I do I end up loving my pages.

So I save this technique for special pages.

This week I turned to Studio Calico's Design Team gallery for some inspiration. If you are not familiar with the work of {Kinsey Wilson} and {Sasha Farina}, I recommend you take a look. They take sewing to a whole other level.

for this layout, I used {this} layout from Kinsey as my inspiration. I drew the loops on cardstock from my discard pile and cut out the inside of the loops to make the template for my real patterned papers. Once I pieced all my papers together, I poked holes with my paper piercer and used some embroidery thread to outline the shapes.

I also used sewing on my title with some baker's twine...

and a little detail of blanket stitching

I added a few details in red once I chose my photos, to balance out the red that is peeking through in the photos.Overall this page took me longer to create than I usually take, but it is certainly worth it. It just makes me smile to look at it.

sew fast sew easy

i didn't use a sketch or an inspiration piece for this one. I just laid down some papers I really like.

 I stitched on my title and I added a few sewing related embellishments to reinforce the theme, such as the felt sticker from Amy Tangerine.

 I also added a clothes hanger clip from Amy Tangerine, a scrap of fabric, some buttons and the tape measure washi. It was a story I had been meaning to tell but hadn't found the time or photos. This challenge pushed me to get it done.

#54 Inspired by stitching

I love stitching on paper and bought a new sewing machine recently that has yet to spy a piece of fabric! And that from someone who used to design and make evening gowns and wedding dresses for a living!

But as soon as I started scrapping I knew I wanted to add stitching details though it took a long time for me to take the leap. I love sewing a few hand-stitches when I have time, or these days whipping out the machine and trying something new. Often, I just make it simple but every now and again I go to town and find it very therapeutic - the embroidery layout featured in the prompt post is just such a layout. I love the texture and dimension it adds to the page and the detail it adds always makes me happy - if it#s a line of running stitch or a sprinkle of french knots.

Pam uses stitches for borders, for words, for titles and I always love that look whenever I see it - adding that to my list to try out sometime.

As for me this week, I was still feeling the grid groove from last week and decided to stitch a grid to fill with little bits and pieces.

With some light pencil lines to follow, this came together in no time, using my CKC August kit, Olympiad in the process.

Challenge #54 week of 27th August 2012

I was recently invited by a good blog friend, Clair, to participate in free online course she was setting up. I was delighted to be asked and honoured to be amongst some very talented paper crafters. And stitchers. Which is what the course was all about.

And so a prompt was born!

I had such a lot of fun creating layouts using differnent stitching inspiration and it struck me that this would be a great prompt for WM! I know that there's some stitchers as well as some quilters out there and if you don't usually take thread to paper, then here's the chance for you to give it a go!

If you want some ideas, you could go to Clair's site and check out the class where she talks about simple hand stitching, machine stitching, as well as inspiration from stamping, embroidery, quilting, string or cross stitch.
